Dear D2 Coaches,
This notice is to let all Division 2 coach volunteers and families know that SSA Board member Beth Carson and I will be assuming D2 Co-Director duties for the remainder of the fall. Dan Tomac will be assisting us when he can, but he will be taking a smaller role going forward because of his coaching responsibilities with the U12 Girls Travel Team as well as his work responsibilities. Dan has assisted SSA and been D2 Director for this season and in past seasons because no one else could/would do it. Dan does not even have a child playing in D2. It is time for others to step up. That said, Beth’s contact information and my contact information is as follows: Beth’s cell number is (901) 233-2740 and her email is
; my cell is (203) 804-0423 and my email is
. Please make a note of it.
See the bullets below for important information:
Weeknight practices– D2 practices will cease beginning in October because of the lack of daylight and the sun setting earlier and earlier this time of year. Therefore, final D2 weeknight practices will be held the week of September 27 – September 30.
Coaches on the field during games – Although the D2 rules state otherwise, it has been decided to allow one (1) coach on the field per team until the Fall Jamboree which is scheduled for Sunday, October 31 (further details about the Fall Jamboree will be soon be posted on the SSA website). Coaches asked for this change and SSA has heard you and is granting it. Please be sure to assist your players in learning positioning during the time you have this season as coaches on the field. In addition, no coaches or parents should be standing behind goals assisting players in playing that position. The coach on the field can drop back and help teach a player how to play goalie if they like.
Goal and Safety Net Memo -- All soccer goals and nets are to be inspected by a coach prior to each practice and game. Players are not permitted to climb or hang on nets or goals. All goals must be anchored prior to use. Goals are not to be moved unless absolutely necessary. If it is necessary to move goals, they are to be moved by adults only. Please report any goal or goal net damage immediately to Equipment Director Ray Faustich at
or a Division Co-Director.
Field assignment clarification for games – Please see the “D2 Game Schedule” below. As you can see, fields have been clarified for the remainder of the fall season. This info can be referred to for the remainder of the season to know which field your team should be on for games. Our goal with these field assignments is to have less confusion for you and families when arriving for games. We apologize for any inconvenience not having this information may have caused.
Finally, as a D2 Assistant Coach I have observed all the players learning the game of soccer and having fun. As SSA President, I would like to thank all the coaches, assistant coaches, and team managers for all of their hard work. I know that with job and life responsibilities, it can be difficult to dedicate time to youth soccer. I know there have been some stumbles this fall season, but SSA will use such “learnings” to make a better spring program with our partners at AFC for you and the kids.
Thank you! The future of Seymour Soccer is bright thanks to your dedication! Please do not hesitate to contact Beth or myself with any questions or concerns.
Very truly yours, Al Bruno and Beth Carson
