Varsity Ice Hockey


Team of the Week



In the past week the Varsity Ice Hockey team has continued to battle and win games.  On Sunday they beat Keene 3-1 and Wednesday they won 5-1 over Oyster River, both games were at home.  Saturday they went on the road and beat Alverine 6-2.  They now begin to prepare for the Playoffs which begin March 1st against Oyster River.




10 Questions with Head Coach Andrew Merrick

 

1.       What is something you like about the particular team your coaching now?

This is a very good group of skaters.  There is a lot of talent on this team.  They are also very hard working.

 

2.       How long have you been coaching at Timberlane?

This is my third season as head coach.

 

3.       What other coaching hockey experience do you have?

I have coached the Valley Junior Warriors (Eastern Junior Hockey League).  I played college hockey at Michigan from 1996-2000 and was drafted and played a year of professional hockey.

 

4.       What do you like about coaching?

Coaching at the high school level is very rewarding…seeing the kids improve and have fun.  I also like getting to know the kids personally. It is also nice to see our hockey programs grow as a whole.

 

5.       What is your favorite professional sport?

Hockey

 

6.       What are your favorite team(s) and/or player(s)?

I am a New York Islanders fan.  I grew up on Long Island and my dad played for the Islanders.

 

7.       What is your most memorable moment as a coach?

We had a big win over Spaulding in December, they hadn’t lost in 2 years.

 

8.       What are some of your hobbies (sports and/or other)?

Spending time with my kids, hockey and work.

 

9.       What is your favorite vacation spot?

Oahu, HI.

 

10.   Choose one meal, one band and one television show…

A good burger, Godsmack, and The Office.
