SPRING INTO ACTION FOR ANOTHER GREAT SPORTS SEASON WITH YAC !

JOIN US FOR YAC OPENING DAY PARADE & PICNIC

SATURDAY, APRIL 29

Dear YAC Baseball family,

Yorktown Athletic Club’s Annual Spring Parade, a treasured Yorktown tradition for more than a half-century, is this Saturday, April 29!

FORWARD MARCH INTO SPRING SPORTS!

We start marching 11:45AM from Grange Fair on Moseman Avenue -- to be led down Hanover Street by Hudson Valley Regional Police Pipes and Drums, a fire engine, and local dignitaries -- and end up at the big field behind Yorktown Volunteer Fire Department on Commerce Street.

We urge you and your family to celebrate the end of the cold winter months with your friends and neighbors at our parade to kick off the YAC spring sports season.  Parents are invited and encouraged to march alongside their children.

If you’re not marching in the procession, feel free to bring a chair and settle in along Hanover Street to cheer on your daughters and sons and dads and moms and everyone else you know. We expect a great turnout and cooperative weather.

A BRIEF, SPECIAL CEREMONY

Once everyone is at the parade grounds, there’ll be a brief ceremony, featuring our guest of honor, Yorktown’s own U.S. Army Sergeant Robert T. Giordano, who served a year of active duty in Iraq.

We ask for everyone’s undivided attention during the short ceremony. We know kids, not to mention adults, will be eager to eat and have fun, so please help us during these 15 minutes to show appreciation and respect for our special guests.

The ceremony includes New York State Assemblyman Willis Stephens, Jr. who plans to make a special presentation honoring YAC.

Also expected to attend are Yorktown Supervisor Linda Cooper, State Senator Vincent Leibell, and members of the Yorktown Town Board and Parks & Recreation Commission. This is a flattering reflection of YAC’s esteemed place in the community, with the largest membership of any local organization.

The National Anthem will be sung by Cheryline Pezzullo, daughter of North County News editor Rick Pezzullo.

LET’S EAT AND HAVE FUN !

After the brief presentation, we’ll have burgers, hot dogs, sausage and pepper, beverages, music, face painting, air castles, balloon sculptures, and a Velcro Olympics station.

To simplify and speed food distribution, coaches will be given tickets that are color coded by sport and team at the Fairgrounds before the parade kicks off. Coaches: Please note that food will not be dispensed at the grills where it is cooked, but from a special serving area that will be clearly marked at the fairgrounds. All YAC players and coaches will be served first.  We ask that families please respect the work of the volunteers and not crowd the food area .  Family members will be served  after we have finished serving the children and coaches first.

THE BEST WAY TO ARRIVE AT THE PARADE STAGING AREA

ALL MARCHERS MUST BE AT GRANGE FAIR BY 11:15 AM SATURDAY

PLEASE NOTE: Hanover Street will be closed by Yorktown Police no later than 11:20 am. Please have your child at the Grange Fairgrounds this Saturday NO LATER THAN 11:15 am.

Try to arrive early, as parking is limited, and there is ABSOLUTELY NO PARKING IN FRONT OF OR BEHIND THE FIREHOUSE. There is ample public parking available in the various lots within easy walking distance of the parade.

To avoid traffic congestion at that time, YAC strongly urges ALL COACHES to select a central location where you meet all the players on your team , and then proceed as a single group to the Grange Fairgrounds to ensure you march as a team when the parade starts.

If a team can fit into a van or two, please make arrangements to carpool together. There will be YAC volunteers along the Parade route assisting with directions.

PARADE FORMATION

The order of teams, by sport, falling into formation at the Fairgrounds and marching in the procession is as follows, from front to rear:

Baseball                        (Tee Ball, Bantam, and Minors)

Softball                         (All Divisions)

Roller Hockey              (All Divisions)

Boys Lacrosse              (All Divisions)

Girls Lacrosse               (All Divisions)

Baseball                        (Majors and Pony)

NEVER TOO LATE TO VOLUNTEER FOR PARADE

We still need parade volunteers to help organize teams at the fairgrounds, sell 50/50 tickets, flip burgers at the grill, serve food, clean up, and more.  All you need to do is walk up to a YAC volunteer and ask, “What can I do to help?” Thanks in advance!

WE NEED YOUR HELP TO MAKE THIS A GREAT EVENT FOR THE KIDS !!!

The weather forecast looks great !!!  We look forward to seeing you Saturday !!!
