Queens University Softball Pitching Clinic


The Queens University softball clinic this Sunday, February 24th is cancelled. The Queens University softball games this past week were rescheduled to this weekend due to the rain. As a result, the coaches are unavailable to run the clinic this Sunday. 

The cancelled clinics from Wednesday, February 20th and Sunday, February 24th will be rescheduled. Tentative dates will be Sunday, March 3rd and Sunday, March 24th. Please be on the lookout for announcement this week once dates are finalized. 

The your respective coaches will collect the names of those attending the clinics on the new dates.

MARA Softball Update


MARA softball assessments and drafts are complete. MARA softball continues to be one of the largest recreational softball programs in Charlotte region. MARA will be fielding the following teams this Spring: 
4 - 8U 
4 - 10U
3 - 13U 
1 - 18U 
Coaches will contact pllayers and families by Tuesday, February 12. Practices start this week through March 15th with opening day on March 16th. 


MARA has partnered with Queens University softball to bring 4 pitching clinics to help develop the pitching talent at all levels this Spring. See below for details: 
Clinic Dates and Times:
Session #1: Wednesday, February 20th 
6 PM to 7 PM - 8U
7 PM to 8 PM - 10U
8 PM to 9 PM - 13U/18U
Session #2: Sunday, February 24th
Session #3: Sunday, March 3rd
Session #4: Sunday, March 17th 
All Sunday sessions will be at the following times:
1 PM to 2 PM - 8U
2 PM to 3 PM - 10U
3 PM to 4 PM - 13U/18U
Cost: $10 per pitcher per 1 hour session. The pitcher just brings $10 for the coach at each session. 
Pitchers may attend any 1 up to all 4 sessions.  
Pitchers must bring their own catcher. A parent, sibling, other family member, or friend. The coaches will explain each drill that is taught. Players can then take the instruction and practice at home. Interested pitchers should contact their respective coaches to sign up for the pitching clinics.
MARA Softball will again participate in the Char-Meck Challenge Softball program, competing in tournaments during the recreational softball season against Challenge teams from the other Char-Meck Softball Associations. MARA plans to field at least one Challenge team at each of the 8U, 10U, and 13U levels depending o player interest and coach availability. Softball Challenge Try-outs will be Sunday, March 10th. Interested players should contact their respective coaches for more information.

Spring Softball Registration Open

Registration for 2019 Spring Softball season for ALL AGE Groups is OPEN. 

8U and Above age groups will be open until February 

6U Softball T-Ball Registration will be open until March 

Also of note, CharMeck Softball has changed the 16U age group to be 18U/High School. The age group change was to allow the young ladies to enjoy the sport they love longer. Players must be 18 or younger on December 31, 2018 AND must NOT have graduated high school.

  • Check MARA Website of Call Weather Line to determine if fields are open.
  • DO NOT practice or play on a field with standing water.
  • DO NOT remove wet dirt from the mound, home plate or baseline.
  • Please do all warm up exercises in the outfield, but DO NOT have players stand on painted outfield lines.
  • DO NOT use the fences for soft toss, pepper or to throw against.
  • Please try to rotate dugouts used for practice!!!!!
Post Game Maintenance




  • Rake and level home plate area…fill and tamp holes with rake.
  • Rake and level pitcher’s mound and bullpen…fill and tamp with rake.Rubber and pitching landing area, and then wet the mound thoroughly (fields 1, 12, 13 and Babe Ruth)
  • Rake and level around all bases-DO NOT rakedirt into grass area.
  • Broom drag infield dirt. DO NOTdrag dirt into grass area. (keep broom on the dirt)
  • DO NOTdrag the brooms down the baselines on fields 1, 12, 13.
  • DO NOT allow players to practice swing in grass in front of dugouts (keep players in the gravel areas)
  • Clean dugouts areas – throw all trash and litter into trash cans.
  • Turn off the field lights (after the game)
  • Notify Commissioners of your league of any problems.
Please remember that any failure to properly take care of the fields can affect other players and coaches the next day. Help keep this facility in good shape for all users.
