In September 2003, Pinetree Field was rededicated by the Town of Yorktown as Harrison Apar Field of Dreams on the strength of a 1200-signature petition circulated by Mildred E. Strang 7th graders Brendan Frail [2nd left] and Alison Belcastro. Also pictured, just after the new sign was mounted, are Harrison's father Bruce Apar and John Schroeder (r) of Yorktown Parks & Recreation Department, who also serves as President of Yorktown Land Trust and whose daughter Johanna was a friend of Harrison's.

Yorktown Athletic Club/

Fund

The Harrison Apar YAC PBA Fund was founded April 2003 in conjunction with
Yorktown Athletic Club and Yorktown Police Benevolent Association.

Its mission is to improve town and school recreational facilities and
spread inspiration to our children by memorializing a young man whose small stature
(37 inches tall) and lifelong health battles were obscured by his
big personality and achievements in academics, acting, writing and sports expertise.

A letter Harrison wrote to ESPN was read by commentator Tony Kornheiser on his radio show. In his travels, Harrison had the good fortune to meet his sports heroes Shaquille O'Neal, Reggie Miller, Reggie Jackson, Yogi Berra and others. His dream was to be an ESPN sportscaster and his friends to this day believe he would have achieved that goal.

On Harrison's passing, at age 15,
Shawn Sigler
memorialized his friend with the elegy:
'May We Stand as Tall as He Did'
